Learning Center

We have established a Learning Center at 829 South 6th Avenue with some of the funds raised from our raffle ticket sales. It is currently open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. We offer free ESL (English as a second language ) classes to help people with low incomes learn English in order to better their lives. There will be classes for various levels of current competency in speaking English. All learning materials will be free. If you know of someone who wants to learn English, or more English, call Lena at 628-0738 or Bill at 248-2900.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY

We members of St. Vincent de Paul Society bring your gifts directly to the poor and suffering living within our parish boundaries.  In December, SVdP home visitors had the opportunity to visit and serve 49 families, brining food to 82 adults and 71 children and helping 18 families with either utility or rent assistance.

On December 15, St. Vincent de Paul members filled Christmas boxes for 38 families with canned foods, fresh fruit, milk, turkeys and chickens, breads, pastries, Fry's certificates and toys.  Ten struggling families faced with tremendous hardships were given gift certificates to Target and Fry's.  Most of these families cried with tears of joy and thanksgiving.  Many asked us to thank our parishioners for giving their families a very special Christmas.  One child said that it was the best Christmas he ever had.

This was made possible because of you, our fellow parishioners, Father Fuller and the Cabrini Council.  Your prayers and generosity have provided the resources to meet some of the needs of our neighbors during the Holy Season of Christmas and throughout the year.  Thank you for making our ministry capable of helping so many.

Now that the holidays are over, we will resume our normal food collection (in the Big Blue Barrels) on the first weekend of each month.

May the New Year bring peace to each of you and peace in our world.

Wherever you live in our parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home.   When, in their need, they call the Parish Office, they are in effect calling YOU.

St. Vincent de Paul members assist them by your contributions.

You may already have noticed that recently our Cabrini Conference of SVDP has been the recipient of a labor of love in the form of new and sturdier Poor Boxes. Jim Sharrah donated his time to hand-make the boxes for us. The wooden ones that survived years of good use were made by an early parishioner, the grandfather of one of our own members, Seth Tylutki. We have cherished your grandfather’s boxes for years, Seth!

Another donation of pancake mix came to us from Albertson’s grocery store on Campbell & Glenn through their Asst. Manager. We feel blessed to have so many people in and outside of our parish family donate generously for the needy of our neighborhood.

In April, we visited 42 families and brought food to 48 children and 76 adults in those families. Some of them also received help with utility bills, bus passes, beds and other furniture, and clothing vouchers. One client, a single Mom with teenagers, has worked at a family business for years. She receives a tiny house and only $100 a week to pay for everything else. The business is not doing too well. We were able to provide them with food, clothing vouchers and a bed for one child who was sleeping on the floor.

BLUE BARRELS

Blue barrels will be outside the church doors on the first Sunday of  each month for food collection.
Cereal, peanut butter, canned meats and canned fruits are much-needed items.
Thank you!

We especially need canned meat products, jelly or jam, toilet paper, soap (bath, laundry & dish), and small saucepans and frying pans. Thank you for helping us show Christ’s love for the poor through your donations and prayers.

THRIFT STORES
820 S. Sixth Ave
18th St
5426 E. Pima, at Craycroft

With all the students and snowbirds leaving Tucson for the summer, we received a lot of donations recently. Visit either location — 820 S. Sixth Ave., at 18th St., or 5426 E. Pima, at Craycroft, next to Ace — and check out our great bargains.

The Pima St. store just opened “Vinny’s Vintage,” a vintage clothing area, on June 15. This features some fun, different items.  The stores will be closed on the July 4 holiday. There will be a big 50% off sale on Sat., July 2. Both stores have 50% off clothing every Tues. & Wed. and $1.00 clothing on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Your parish chapters of St. Vincent de Paul often send people in need of clothes, especially those with large families and little money, to our stores with vouchers to get clothing. Anyone who comes through our doors needing a change of clothes is given it for free. In May, for example, we gave away over 5,000 items of clothing. So we value your donations of usable clothing for people of all ages!

We thank those of you who donate items, our loyal and priceless volunteers, and those who shop here and thereby help us continue to do our ministry
